As the evenings begin to get lighter and the early signs of spring start appearing around our Hampshire office, it’s time to turn our thoughts to summer!
Marquee parties and celebrations are synonymous with summer days, so we thought we’d come up with some suggestions for marquee setups and decoration that work well for summer events.
Marquee Setups
Open-sided marquees with tie-back walls allow for good air circulation, while providing shade and rain protection for the sometimes unpredictable English summer weather.
Opting for a frame or clearspan marquee also allows for clear roof sections to let in natural light to the interior marquee event space, whilst providing protection in the event of rain.
The modular nature of frame marquees also enables multiple smaller connected marquees to be constructed as an effective way of creating different zones, for example for dining, dancing and lounging.
Strategic placement of the marquee within the venue site also means you can take advantage of natural features like gardens, ponds, trees and other landscape features, which will be looking at their best in the summer.
Decoration Themes
Summer decorative themes could include a coastal or beach style with a blue and white colour scheme, seashells, driftwood and other nautical elements. Or perhaps a tropical paradise vibe is more your thing, using vibrant colours, palm leaves, pineapples and exotic flowers.
Alternatively, dress your marquee for the classic English garden party, with pastel colours, gingham, hanging planters and floral arrangements.
With Glastonbury a firm fixture of the English summer calendar, you could always channel your inner festival spirit with bright and colourful flags and bunting, hay bales and fairy lights, and maybe even a hint of glitter here and there!
Lighting Ideas
String lights or festoon lighting criss-crossed overhead, or hanging paper lanterns in bright colours create an ideal partner for a summer theme.
Uplighters are also great for creating atmosphere, and a solar-powered pathway of lights leading to the marquee provides a lovely finishing touch.
